What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy which allows clients to express themselves both visually and verbally. In addition to talking about their issues, clients also work with art materials to make images that provide further insights.
At the same time, art therapy also strengthens creativity. Consequently, it increases one's ability to find new solutions to many of life's problems.
Clients do not need to have any art skills in order to fully benefit from art therapy.
Human beings are visual beings. Throughout any given day, we take in thousands of images. From the television programs we watch to the billboards on our highways, we see the creative works of many people on a daily basis.
Also, we continuously create our own visual images. Our home decor, our style of dressing and the gardens we make are all examples of our personal visual expressions. Art therapy makes good use of our two natural and equally important means of communication and understanding - images and words.
